Geo Sea

For centuries, the geothermal heat north of Húsavík has been known to residents, who have utilized it for bathing and washing. Drilling for hot water at Húsavíkurhöfði in the mid-20th century revealed water that turned out to be hot seawater, too rich in minerals to be suitable for heating houses. Instead of letting this hot water go to waste, Húsavík residents decided to create a hot spring bathing experience using the water. It started as a simple barrel for bathing and now has turned into a newly designed wellness facility. The water in the GeoSea sea baths comes from two drill holes close to the Húsavík harbor. The GeoSea sea baths enable you to enjoy nature in a unique manner. There is a long tradition of bathing in Iceland’s geothermal waters. Throughout its history, Icelanders have met in hot pools to relax and relieve themselves of the day’s hard work. Geosea is not only a world-class geothermal bathing mecca — it is an experience that taps into the historical roots of a small fishing town in North Iceland that has harnessed the earth's geothermal waters for centuries. It is a rare union of mineral-rich seawater and heat
